I really don't want to do this, but new project forces me to sell my baby. 'Myrtle' is a RHD '68 1300 model in Savanna Beige.
She’s in great condition and such a lovely car to drive. She turns heads wherever she goes and always draws a crowd outside the pub!
She has been my regular daily driver for the last four years, but has been very well looked after. The previous owner had her for nine years and also looked after her very well. I would really love her to go to someone who will love her and take care of her as much as we have over the years.
She has MOT and tax until 20 May 2009 and comes complete with Empi roof rack and loads of receipts.
I’ve tried to list everything as much as possible below, but any questions, please just give me a call. My number is 07950 903468. I’m in Sheffield.
£4,250 ovno

Bodywork
The bodywork is in really good condition. It’s very solid all round, gutters are in excellent condition although the paintwork is no show winning as it has a few minor imperfections, e.g. paint rubbed through slightly on one of the wings, there are one or two pinhead size chips on the bonnet, just from general use. Where the roof rack clamps onto the guttering, this has also marked the paint. These have been rust treated and touched up to prevent any further damage. It’s had two brand new German running boards with the deluxe trim fitted. New deluxe trim fitted and all new window rubbers and aluminium deluxe trim with a brand new toughened windscreen. It’s got a new aerial wired up to the stereo. Brand new black and silver pressed number plates, new bonnet handle gaskets, new front indicator seals. Euro bumpers with an original black AA badge attached to the front one – a cool accessory! It's still got the original mudflaps too!
Engine
1600 twinport engine, recently rebuilt with an original 32-34 PICT Solex carburettor, 009 distributor and new alternator which replaced the old dynamo. It runs really well and has no leaks or endfloat. The gearbox has also been rebuilt with new gaskets and the oil has been changed. New heat exchangers have also been fitted.
Steering and Suspension
New lowered front beam fitted with brand new brakes all round, including pads, cylinders, adjusters, fitting kits. It got four excellent Firestone tyres fitted – still plenty of tread (that's mud on the rear ones on the photos). The steering is excellent and the car handles really well. It’s had new rear wheel bearings and axle boot kit.
Interior
Almost everything inside the car has been replaced. It has original door and rear panels with new deluxe door openers, original front and rear seats, new headlining, new red seatbelts, new red carpet from Newton Commercial, new white vinyl parcel shelf, new interior light, original deluxe dash trim fitted with original fuel gauge and speedo, original steering wheel as the old one was off a Golf. It has an original rare VW 12 volt cigarette lighter that is in working order (very useful for charging your mobile), brand new fire extinguisher fitted to the tunnel. It has a Sony Xplod head unit located in the glovebox which is wired up to 2 brand new Kenwood speakers hidden in the rear parcel shelf. It has a brand new battery. The old style radio has been wired up so that the light comes on (although very dim) but this is not wired up to the speakers. All new pedal rubbers. We’ve replaced all the dash trim (the three black air vents) as they were all broken. Brand new handbrake gaitor. Original bonnet liner.
Other Bits and Bobs
The front indicators have been wired up as per US spec, e.g. they light up when you put the side lights on, although there is a separate bulb for the actual indicator – looks cool in the dark. It’s also a one key fits all car, which is quite a rare occurrence these days!
